Using word clouds to honour the lives of dying patients
The 3 Wishes Project began three years ago at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton with the goal of bringing peace to the last few moments of patients’ lives. A set of three wishes generated by patients, families or clinicians were implemented by families and staff in the ICU with the hopes of achieving this goal.
A common wish requested in the 3 Wishes Project is the creation of a word cloud in the honour of a patient. A new study led by Dr. Cook and her team demonstrates how word clouds are an effective way to create a positive impact in the ICU – transforming the experience for patients, their families and the clinicians that serve them.
