COVID-19 outbreak declared on inpatient unit at St. Joseph's
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, in consultation with Hamilton Public Health, has declared a healthcare worker outbreak of COVID-19 on CTU Central, a general internal medicine unit, at the Charlton Campus.
Three healthcare workers on the unit have tested positive for COVID-19. Three additional healthcare workers from this unit have also tested positive, but acquired the virus in the community. All healthcare workers are now self-isolating at home and will not return to work until they have completed the self-isolation period and are asymptomatic.
Hamilton Public Health and St. Joe’s Infection Prevention & Control and Occupational Health & Safety teams are testing all staff on the unit. Contact tracing has been conducted and staff members considered at risk have been sent home to self-isolate pending test results.
Proper PPE was used during patient care, however out of an abundance of caution, all patients from this unit are being tested and screened regularly for symptoms. In addition to the thorough daily cleaning, a deep cleaning has also been done on the unit.
CTU Central is now closed to admissions.
