Bike to Work Month: Sarah Kam Profile
At St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton we encourage all staff, physicians, learners and volunteers to live a healthy lifestyle by participating in employee Wellness programs at St. Joe’s and on their own, outside of the workplace. Research shows that just 30 minutes of exercises a day significantly boosts mood, productivity and leads to a healthy, longer life.
Many of our staff live an active lifestyle, like Sarah Kam, Registered Nurse, Care Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Youth Wellness Centre. Sarah incorporates wellness into her lifestyle by cycling to work every day. “I travel from the North-End of Hamilton, about a 10 minute bicycle ride down James Street North,” shares Sarah. “I get to stream past the Portuguese markets, art galleries and architectural treasures!”
Not only does Sarah bike to work every day, but she also reduces her environmental impact, “Cycling is a huge part of my life, it’s my main mode of transportation,” states Sarah. “I do all of my errands by bicycle.” Sarah’s love of deserts also aids in her passion for cycling and wellness as she uses it to burn off extra calories to prevent any damage to her body from her love of ice cream!
During Bike Month, we will be featuring staff members and departments to showcase their healthy lifestyle and what our organization is doing to celebrate Wellness. Connect with us on Facebook and Twitter throughout the month to read more.
