St. Joe’s is Choosing Wisely
Choosing Wisely Canada is a campaign to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary test, treatments and procedures, to ensure that physicians and patients make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care.
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton adopted Choosing Wisely Canada’s recommendations that apply to the healthcare our hospital provides including kidney and urinary care, imaging testing, preoperative testing, palliative care, newborn care and many more.
Recently, the national campaign has picked up across Canada where more and more hospitals are adopting Choosing Wisely Canada’s recommendations. The Canadian Medical Association Journal’s online publication got wind of all the hospitals and how their implementing the recommendations, including St. Joe’s. Dr. Tamar Packer, medical director and head of newborn care is leading St. Joe’s is choosing wisely through a multimedia campaign that was launched in January. The campaign entails stories of our experts and patients in St. Joe’s monthly newsletter Connections and website, posters, screensavers, pull-up banners and social media.
