SJHH / Health Services/ Surgical Services/ Pre Op Clinic

Pre Op Clinic

What this program does…

Most elective surgical patients will be required to attend the Pre-Op Clinic, also known as the Pre-admission assessment clinic, in preparation for their upcoming scheduled surgery.

During this visit you will meet members of the health care team that will determine testing that may be required and procedures to be followed before the date of your surgery. Completing most of this work must be done to avoid cancellation or delays on your surgery date. Completing these procedures early can identify/prevent potential problems and make your stay more comfortable. Your surgery may be cancelled if your Pre-Op testing is not completed prior to your procedure date.

How this program helps...

This visit will include:

  • A nursing assessment and instructions related to procedures for you to follow before during and after surgery.
  • You will be able to ask questions about the procedures, the surgery and the Hospital.
  • An Anesthetist (doctor) will examine your physical conditions and review your medical history.
  • If required, you will have blood tests taken, X-rays, ECG or other tests as ordered by your surgeon.
  • Other appointments may be arranged for you during this day and we will try to coordinate these times around your Pre-Op clinic visit if possible.
